How did this goal go for your first 10K?
After hitting my 5K goal, it felt only natural to level up and move to a 10K! My dad and I started our training about two months before race day. One of the goals we set for ourselves was simple, do not stop running.
After the 8th kilometer, we felt a little weakness in the knee (it runs in the family), so we backed off the pace, but we didn’t stop.
We crossed the finish line together in 52 minutes!
How did you manage the preparation for this goal?
We took a little under two months to prepare for the 10K. We never actually ran a full 10K during training because we made up for it with the elevation gain in the mountains of Haute-Savoie.
By the end, we were running around 9 km per session. Each workout we increased the distance a bit, and if a session had felt tough the time before, we simply repeated the route. We trained about twice a week, sometimes three times when motivation and time lined up. We set our running pace to the rhythm of our conversations, if we could keep talking without being totally out of breath, we knew the effort was right. It was our simple “talk test” for endurance and 10K race pace.
What motivates you to run?
I love lacing up my running shoes to clear my head and feel good. After doing martial arts for 10 years, I wanted to discover running. What motivates me most is running with my dad, it’s with him that I started running in the first place. Every time I have a slump during training and I see him keep going, and even pass me, it pushes me to continue and not give up (I truly think running with someone is one of the best sources of motivation and pushing your limits).
What do you like most about the RunMotion Coach app?
Switching coaches depending on my mood!
What’s your next sports challenge?
My long-term goal is to discover the half marathon distance, but first I need to get back into consistent training and manage to run 10K again in under 50 minutes.
Well done Océane on your first 10K 🙂
