From 50:55 to 48:44 at the Lausanne 10K, Marine’s RunMotion Training Story

Runner improves Lausanne 10K time from 50:55 to 48:44 using RunMotion training plan.

Marine is 25, a life sciences engineer, and she lined up for the Lausanne 10K. With a personal best of 50:55, she was hoping to smash her PR over the distance. Alongside training, Marine is doing a PhD on ALS. She is fascinated by the human motor system. On Instagram @sororitri, she shares her interest in the benefits of mental health and the mind-body connection for better running performance. Here is how her 10K goal played out.

How did this goal go?

“I really wanted to get back to some serious goals this year after two years of basically no sport. Luckily, the research institute where I work offers race bibs every year for all the 20km de Lausanne events. So I didn’t hesitate, I rallied my colleagues and we all signed up for the 10K! I also convinced a friend who is new to running and got her to install RunMotion. My main goal was to have a lot of fun, but I admit I was hoping to beat my 50:55 PB.”

How did you manage your training?

“On my sports doctor’s advice, I started triathlon the summer right before the 10K (in October). At that point, I was running twice a week with RunMotion sessions, but I was focusing more on swimming and cycling, which were new to me, until I hit my triathlon goal. Then after two weeks off, I jumped back into training, this time with three running workouts planned by RunMotion, plus one to two bike sessions and a tiny bit of strength training on the side.

Honestly, four weeks before the race, I didn’t think I was going to pull it off. I was exhausted from a really intense period at work and my nutrition wasn’t great. I could see it clearly in how I felt during training and my resting heart rate. But I told myself it’s never too late. I prioritized sleep and food quality, and on race day I felt ready to move mountains! So much so that I went out way too fast, but I gritted my teeth all the way to the finish to get that time I’d been chasing. I finished in 48:44, and I was so proud to see my friend complete her first 10K with a smile, so a big thank you to the RunMotion team.”

What motivates you to run?

“My motivation to run comes from a lot of places. I first started running as a teenager to lose weight because I didn’t feel good in my own skin. Back then, it helped build an incredibly strong bond with my best friend. Running became something joyful, it boosted my confidence, and it even turned into a way of pushing my limits. That’s when I started pinning on race bibs. Since then, running has been part of my routine, and my best friend, who was truly passionate about the sport, passed away during our first year at university. Today, when I run, I also run for her.”

How did you discover the RunMotion Coach app?

“A runner friend told me about you even before the app came out! You had posted a training plan for everyone, a special Course de l’Escalade program, on Facebook I think, and I followed it. It worked so well, I set a PR, and it was the very first time I trained with that much discipline! Since then, I swear by you. I obviously upgraded to premium and I’m really happy with it!”

What do you like most about the RunMotion Coach app?

“The design is really nice. The customization options are great (choosing your coach, fine-tuning your week), and it genuinely feels like you have a real running coach following you!”

What is your next athletic challenge?

“The Course de l’Escalade, of course! It’s run in pace groups, so two loops for me. I really want to go under 24 minutes, I set 23 as my target. I can’t wait to experience the legendary atmosphere again in Geneva’s old town.”
