TrainingPeaks has been the standard platform for endurance coaches and data-minded athletes for more than two decades. Its Performance Management Chart gave the sport a shared language for fitness, fatigue and form. In July 2026, Garmin bought the company.

TrainingPeaks is built for athletes who work with a coach or plan their own training. If you’re a runner who wants an app to build and adjust the plan for you, it may not be the right fit. The TrainingPeaks alternatives runners compare most are RunMotion Coach, Runna, Intervals.icu, Final Surge and Garmin Coach. This guide covers what TrainingPeaks does well and why some runners switch. It then compares each option on price, planning and analytics.

Disclosure: RunMotion Coach is our app. We’ve included it alongside its competitors and listed where it falls short so you can judge for yourself.

TrainingPeaks alternatives at a glance

App

Best for

Free option

Paid price

RunMotion Coach

Runners who want a plan built and adjusted for them

Free tier

$17.99/month or $119.99/year (US)

Runna

Road runners who already use Strava

Trial only

$19.99/month or $119.99/year (US)

Intervals.icu

Self-coached athletes who love data

Free

Optional Supporter tier at $4/month

Final Surge

Runners with a coach or team

Free for athletes

Optional Athlete Premium

Garmin Coach

Garmin owners who want a free plan

Free with a Garmin watch

Optional Connect+ at $6.99/month

For reference, TrainingPeaks Premium costs $19.95 per month or $134.99 per year after a 14-day free trial.

How we compared these apps

We compared each app on six points: how plans are built, whether they adapt on their own, training load analytics, watch compatibility, coach access and price.

We checked prices on each company’s pricing page and app store listing in September 2026. Competitor feature details come from each company’s website, help center and published reviews. RunMotion Coach details come from our own product team and our public store listings. We’ll update this page when prices or features change.

What TrainingPeaks does well

Coach Joe Friel, his son Dirk Friel and engineer Gear Fisher founded TrainingPeaks in 1999 to deliver Joe’s coaching online. It launched as TrainingBible.com in October 2000 and took the TrainingPeaks name in 2004. TrainingPeaks says its users include Tour de France teams, IRONMAN world champions and Olympians. On July 22, 2026, Garmin acquired TrainingPeaks from Peaksware Holdings.

The Performance Management Chart

The Performance Management Chart is TrainingPeaks’ signature tool. It plots fitness (CTL), fatigue (ATL) and form (TSB) over time, all driven by Training Stress Score. Coaches and athletes use it to judge whether a block is building fitness or piling on fatigue. The chart is a Premium feature.

An established coach ecosystem

TrainingPeaks works as a neutral platform where any coach can deliver their own methodology. Its marketplace sells training plans written by coaches, priced plan by plan. If your coach already uses TrainingPeaks, it’s usually the simplest place to work together.

Structured workouts and indoor training

TrainingPeaks sends structured workouts straight to Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead and Apple Watch, plus Zwift and TrainingPeaks Virtual. COROS, Suunto and Polar watches sync completed activities back to TrainingPeaks, but planned workouts don’t push to them. TrainingPeaks covers running, cycling and triathlon in one calendar. Since March 2025, Premium has also included TrainingPeaks Virtual, the indoor cycling platform formerly called indieVelo.

Why some runners look for a TrainingPeaks alternative

TrainingPeaks remains the reference platform for coached athletes. Self-coached runners raise a few recurring issues.

Plans don’t build or adjust themselves

TrainingPeaks gives you the tools to plan, but the plan comes from you, your coach or the marketplace. A marketplace plan is a fixed schedule written by a coach. As of September 2026, TrainingPeaks offered no adaptive plans, AI-generated workouts or automatic rescheduling. If you miss a week, you rearrange the calendar yourself.

The key tools sit behind Premium

The free Basic account covers workout logging and device sync, with limited future planning. The Performance Management Chart and most analytics need Premium, which costs $19.95 per month or $134.99 per year. The annual price rose from $124.99 in April 2025. Marketplace plans and coaching cost extra on top.

It takes time to learn

TrainingPeaks rewards athletes who want to understand training stress, fitness and form. Runners who just want to know what to run today may find the charts and terminology heavy.

Garmin now owns it

Garmin bought TrainingPeaks in July 2026. Garmin said device compatibility wasn’t changing at the time of the announcement, and it hasn’t published a long-term commitment on third-party watch support. If you train with a COROS, Suunto or Polar watch, it’s worth watching.

How to choose an app like TrainingPeaks

Start with what you’d keep and what you’d happily drop. These questions narrow the list quickly:

Do you work with a coach, or do you want the app to plan for you?

How much do you use training load charts like fitness, fatigue and form?

Do you only run, or do you also cycle, swim or race triathlon?

Does the app support the watch you already own?

Would you rather pay nothing and do more of the planning yourself?

RunMotion Coach: a TrainingPeaks alternative for self-coached runners

Best for: runners without a coach who want the app to write and adjust their plan, including trail and ultra runners.

Brothers Romain and Guillaume Adam built RunMotion Coach in the French Alps. Guillaume raced the 1500m for the French national team and trained as an engineer at INSA Lyon. He contributed to MIT research on running performance and designed the algorithms behind every plan.

More than one million runners have used RunMotion Coach. It became the official online coach of the UTMB World Series in 2025, after the partnership was announced in December 2024.

A plan that builds and adjusts itself

This is the main difference from TrainingPeaks. RunMotion Coach builds your plan from your level, your goal and the days you can train. Upcoming weeks update as your fitness and training frequency change, and the plan recalibrates when you miss a session. You don’t need a coach or a marketplace plan to get started. You can also choose your coach’s tone: encouraging, strict or neutral.

Analytics without the learning curve

Premium adds AI analysis after each run, VO2max and Endurance Index estimates, and a full-year view of your training load. The app explains what each run means for your plan, so you don’t have to read a fitness and fatigue chart yourself.

Road, trail, ultra and triathlon plans

Plans cover 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, trail, ultra-trail and triathlon, for beginners through experts. Trail and ultra-trail plans account for both distance and elevation gain, and they include hike-run sessions for steep terrain. Triathlon plans cover sprint, Olympic, half and full distances.

Premium also includes strength and conditioning work designed with a physiotherapist, stretching, nutrition guidance, mental preparation and cross-training for cycling, swimming and skiing.

Works with the watch you already own

RunMotion Coach connects to Garmin, Suunto, Polar, COROS and Apple Watch, as well as Wahoo, Decathlon, Strava, adidas Running, Huawei, Apple Health and Fitbit. Sessions export directly to Garmin, Suunto, COROS and Apple Watch. You can also add your plan to Google Calendar.

The app is available in English, French, Spanish, German and Dutch.

Pricing and free tier

RunMotion Coach has a free tier, so you can follow a plan before deciding on Premium. Premium starts with a 7-day free trial. After that it costs (USD) $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year, which works out to about $8.25 a month on the annual plan and less per year than TrainingPeaks Premium. Prices in Canada, Australia and the UK vary by app store.

Where RunMotion Coach falls short

RunMotion Coach has no human coach and no coach marketplace. If you work with a coach who uses TrainingPeaks, stay there. It also doesn’t offer the depth of TrainingPeaks’ charts, custom metrics or power analysis for cycling. Polar users can sync completed runs, but scheduled workouts don’t export to Polar watches yet. Some users have said their target paces update more slowly than their fitness improves.

TrainingPeaks vs RunMotion Coach: feature comparison

Feature

TrainingPeaks

RunMotion Coach

Who writes the plan

You, your coach or a marketplace author

The app

Plans adapt automatically

No

Yes

Human coach

Yes, hired separately

No

Training plan marketplace

Yes, priced per plan

No

Training load analytics

Performance Management Chart (Premium)

Full-year training load view (Premium)

Running plans

Through a coach or the marketplace

5K to ultra-trail, built in

Triathlon

Multisport calendar, plans through a coach or the marketplace

Built-in plans, sprint to full distance

Workouts sent to devices

Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, Apple Watch, Zwift

Garmin, Suunto, COROS, Apple Watch, Fitbit, Polar, Wahoo, Huawei

Indoor cycling

TrainingPeaks Virtual included with Premium

Not offered

Free version

Basic account with limited planning

Free tier

Free trial

14 days

7 days

Monthly price (US)

$19.95

$19.99

Annual price (US)

$134.99

$99.99

Prices checked September 2026. Prices in Canada, Australia and the UK vary, so check your local app store or pricing page.

Other TrainingPeaks alternatives to consider

Runna

Best for: road runners who already use Strava.

Dom Maskell and Ben Parker founded Runna in 2021, and Strava bought it in April 2025. Runna builds adaptive plans from 5K to marathon, re-pacing sessions from your completed runs, and includes strength work. It syncs well with Garmin and Apple Watch.

Runna costs $19.99 per month or $119.99 per year. Strava also sells a combined Strava and Runna subscription for $149.99 per year, annual only. Runna has no human coach, no free tier and lighter load analytics than TrainingPeaks. Its plans stop at the marathon, so there’s nothing for trail, ultra or triathlon. Since September 2025 the app has been available in eight languages. Our guide to Runna alternatives covers it in more detail.

Intervals.icu

Best for: self-coached athletes who want TrainingPeaks-style analytics for free.

David Tinker, a developer and cyclist in Cape Town, started Intervals.icu in 2018 as a Strava analysis side project. The core platform is free with no time limit. It includes fitness and fatigue modeling, a power curve, automatic interval detection, a training calendar and Strava sync. Planned workouts push to Garmin, COROS, Wahoo, Suunto and Amazfit.

An optional $4 per month Supporter tier adds weather, an annual plan builder and full Strava history import. Intervals.icu won’t write a plan for you and has no marketplace. The interface is community-translated into around 20 languages, though the documentation and support are English first. It runs in a web browser on desktop, phone or tablet, with no official mobile app, and the depth of settings takes time to learn.

Final Surge

Best for: runners who train with a coach or a team.

Final Surge is free for athletes, with the full calendar, device sync, workout analysis and mobile apps included. Coaches pay instead, from just over $15 a month for up to five athletes to just over $32 a month for up to 100 on annual billing, with no per-athlete fee. Elite groups such as the On Athletics Club and HOKA NAZ Elite coach on it. Structured workouts sync to Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS, Suunto, Stryd and Zwift.

An optional Athlete Premium subscription, $6.58 a month on annual billing, adds HRV and morning readiness, weather forecasts, a route builder and a public athlete page. Final Surge doesn’t build or adapt plans on its own, and its analytics are lighter than TrainingPeaks’. It suits runners whose coach or club already uses it.

Garmin Coach

Best for: Garmin owners who want a free adaptive plan.

Garmin Coach is free with a compatible Garmin watch. Its adaptive plans cover 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. You choose from three coaches: Jeff Galloway, Greg McMillan and Amy Parkerson-Mitchell. Workouts appear on your watch automatically.

Garmin Coach itself stays free. Garmin’s Connect+ subscription costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year and adds AI insights and extra features across Garmin Connect rather than coaching alone. Garmin Coach only works with Garmin watches and offers no trail or ultra plans. Since Garmin now owns TrainingPeaks as well, it’s worth watching how the two products connect.

The bottom line

TrainingPeaks is still the platform to use if you work with a coach who’s on it, or if you want its load analytics and plan marketplace.

If you’re a self-coached runner who wants the app to write and adjust your plan, RunMotion Coach is worth trying. We’re biased, so test the free tier and see how the plans fit your training. Intervals.icu is the best free choice for athletes who want deep analytics and are happy to plan themselves. Final Surge suits runners with a coach or team, and Garmin Coach is the simplest free option on a Garmin watch.

If you’re also weighing up subscription running apps, our guide to Coopah alternatives compares five more options.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to TrainingPeaks?

It depends on what you use TrainingPeaks for. Self-coached runners who want a plan built for them can try RunMotion Coach or Runna. Intervals.icu is the closest free match for analytics. Final Surge works well if you have a coach.

Is there a free alternative to TrainingPeaks?

Yes. Intervals.icu is free, with an optional $4 per month Supporter tier. Final Surge is free for athletes. RunMotion Coach has a free tier, and Garmin Coach is free for Garmin owners.

How much does TrainingPeaks cost?

TrainingPeaks Premium costs $19.95 per month or $134.99 per year, after a 14-day free trial. A free Basic account covers logging and device sync with limited planning.

Is RunMotion Coach better than TrainingPeaks?

Each is better at different things. RunMotion Coach writes and adjusts your plan for you and costs less per year. TrainingPeaks offers deeper analytics, a coach marketplace and multisport tools for coached athletes.

Does TrainingPeaks have adaptive training plans?

As of September 2026, TrainingPeaks did not offer plans that adapt automatically. Plans come from you, your coach or the marketplace, and you adjust them yourself. RunMotion Coach, Runna and Garmin Coach all offer adaptive plans.

Who owns TrainingPeaks?

Garmin acquired TrainingPeaks on July 22, 2026. It was previously part of Peaksware Holdings, based in Louisville, Colorado.

Coopah has earned a loyal following in a short time, especially among UK road runners. It’s the official training app of London Marathon Events. Its plans adjust when you miss a session, and you can ask a real coach for help.

No single app suits every runner. If Coopah isn’t the right fit, the Coopah alternatives worth your time are RunMotion Coach, Runna, Garmin Coach, Nike Run Club and TrainAsONE. This guide covers what Coopah does well and why some runners switch. It then compares each option on price, plans and watch support.

Disclosure: RunMotion Coach is our app. We’ve included it alongside its competitors and listed where it falls short so you can judge for yourself.

For reference, Coopah costs $14.99 per month or $79.99 per year after a seven-day free trial.

How we compared these apps

We compared each app on six points: the training plans it offers, how those plans adapt, access to coaching, watch compatibility, app languages and price.

We checked prices and ratings on the US App Store, the UK App Store and Google Play in September 2026. Competitor feature details come from each company’s website, app store listings and published reviews. RunMotion Coach details come from our own product team. We’ll update this page when prices or features change.

What Coopah does well

Coopah was founded in London in 2020 and launched in 2021. London Marathon Events led its pre-seed round in 2023. Redrice Ventures and Active Partners then led a £1.5 million seed round in 2024. Coopah is the official training partner of the TCS London Marathon and also works with the Brighton Marathon and the Cambridge Half Marathon.

Human coaches alongside AI guidance

Coopah’s coaching tab gives instant AI answers and also connects you with human coaches. Reviewers say coaches usually answer questions within hours. If you like to check your pacing before a big session, that personal contact is valuable.

Plans that fit around real life

Coopah plans run from 3 to 24 weeks and shift when you miss or move a session. Its B-Race feature lets you add tune-up events on the way to your main goal. The Just Run option gives structure to runners who don’t have a race planned.

Strength work and progress reports

Every Coopah plan includes strength sessions with video demos. The Race Day Confidence score rates your readiness for your goal. The Weekly Coach Report shows your mileage and sessions against the plan.

Why some runners look for a Coopah alternative

Coopah is a well-made app. A few limits still come up often in user reviews.

There’s no free version

Coopah offers a seven-day free trial, and you enter card details to start it. Some race partner codes extend the trial to two weeks. After the trial, it costs $14.99 or £14.99 per month, or $79.99 or £79.99 per year. That’s fair value next to other premium coaching apps. Runners who want to follow a plan for a few weeks before paying have no free option, though.

Trail running isn’t the focus

Coopah’s plans run from 5K to ultramarathon. Its features and race partnerships center on road events. If you’re building toward a mountain race with serious climbing, look for plans that account for elevation gain.

Watch support is narrower

Coopah’s website lists Apple Watch, Garmin, COROS and Polar, and it also syncs with Strava. Some Pixel Watch owners on Google Play say they have to route runs through Strava. Coopah also doesn’t record treadmill runs, though you can add them manually.

How to choose an app like Coopah

Before switching, decide what you’d miss and what you need. These questions narrow the list quickly:

Do you want to message a human coach, or is an adaptive plan enough?

Do you run trails, or plan to race off-road?

Does the app support the watch you already own?

Would you like to follow a plan for free before paying?

Do you want the app in a language other than English?

RunMotion Coach: a Coopah alternative for road and trail

Best for: runners who mix road and trail, wear a watch that Coopah doesn’t list, or want to start for free.

Plans that adjust week to week

RunMotion Coach builds your plan from your level, your goal and the days you can train. Upcoming weeks update as your fitness and training frequency change, and the plan recalibrates when you miss a session. You can also choose your coach’s tone: encouraging, strict or neutral.

Premium adds AI analysis after each run, VO2max and Endurance Index estimates, and a full-year view of your training load.

Road, trail and ultra plans in one app

Plans cover 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, trail, ultra-trail and triathlon, for beginners through experts. Trail and ultra-trail plans account for both distance and elevation gain, and they include hike-run sessions for steep terrain.

Premium also includes strength work designed by physiotherapists, stretching, nutrition guidance, mental preparation and cross-training for cycling, swimming and skiing.

Works with more watches

After that it costs $19.99 per month or $119.99 per year on the US App Store. That’s more than Coopah’s paid plans, so if price matters most, start on the free tier. Prices in Canada, Australia and the UK vary by app store.

Where RunMotion Coach falls short

RunMotion Coach has no chat with a human coach. If that’s the Coopah feature you use most, you’ll miss it. There’s also no large library of guided audio runs. Polar users can sync completed runs, but scheduled workouts don’t export to Polar watches yet. Some users have said their target paces update more slowly than their fitness improves.

Coopah vs RunMotion Coach: feature comparison

Other Coopah alternatives to consider

Runna

Best for: road runners who already use Strava.

Runna is the best-known app in this category and one of the most polished. Dom Maskell and Ben Parker founded it in 2021, and Strava bought it in 2025. Its adaptive plans cover road distances, and it syncs well with Garmin and Apple Watch.

Runna costs $19.99 per month or $119.99 per year, which is more than Coopah. Strava sells a combined Strava and Runna subscription for $149.99 per year, and it’s only available as an annual plan. Runna has no human coach chat and no free tier. Our guide to Runna alternatives covers it in more detail.

Garmin Coach

Best for: Garmin owners who want a free plan on their watch.

Garmin Coach is free if you own a compatible Garmin. Its adaptive plans cover 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. You choose from three coaches: Jeff Galloway, Greg McMillan and Amy Parkerson-Mitchell. Workouts appear on your watch automatically, so you rarely need to open your phone.

Garmin Connect also offers standard plans that don’t adapt the same way. Garmin’s Connect+ subscription costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year and adds extra coaching guidance. Garmin Coach only works with Garmin watches, and it offers no trail or ultra plans.

Nike Run Club

Best for: runners who want motivation more than structure.

Nike Run Club is free and has one of the largest libraries of guided audio runs. Neither Coopah nor RunMotion Coach offers anything comparable. Its community challenges help with consistency.

Its training plans are less detailed and adapt less than the other apps here. There are no trail or ultra plans. Nike Run Club suits beginners and runners who want company on easy runs more than a race-specific build.

TrainAsONE

Best for: runners who like data-driven training.

TrainAsONE adjusts your plan daily based on your completed runs, missed sessions and off-plan workouts. It can also plan around several races at once. New users get a 21-day Premium trial. After that, you can keep training on a free tier with fewer features.

Premium costs £9.99 per month or £99.99 per year in the UK. The interface feels dated next to Coopah’s, and the app doesn’t always explain why it prescribes a session.

The bottom line

Coopah is a strong app. If you mostly race on the road and want a human coach to message, it’s a good place to stay.

If you want trail or ultra plans, support for more watches, a choice of languages or a free way to start, RunMotion Coach is worth trying. We’re biased, so test the free tier and see how the plans fit your training. Runna suits road runners already on Strava. Garmin Coach and Nike Run Club are the best free Coopah alternatives for simpler needs.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Coopah?

It depends on how you train. RunMotion Coach suits runners who mix road and trail, with adaptive plans up to ultra-trail, wide watch support and a free tier. Runna is the most popular paid option for road runners. Nike Run Club and Garmin Coach are good free choices.

Is RunMotion Coach better than Coopah?

Each app is better at different things. RunMotion Coach covers trail, ultra and triathlon, works with more watches and has a free tier. Coopah costs less on its paid plans and lets you message a human coach.

Is there a free alternative to Coopah?

Yes. RunMotion Coach and TrainAsONE both have free tiers. Nike Run Club is free, and Garmin Coach is free for Garmin owners.

How much does Coopah cost?

Coopah costs $14.99 or £14.99 per month, or $79.99 or £79.99 per year, after a seven-day free trial. Prices in Canada and Australia may differ.

What app is like Coopah for trail runners?

RunMotion Coach has dedicated trail and ultra-trail plans that account for elevation gain and include hike-run sessions. It has been the official online coach of the UTMB World Series since 2025.

Does Coopah work with Suunto?

Coopah’s website lists Apple Watch, Garmin, COROS and Polar as supported watches, and Suunto isn’t on that list. RunMotion Coach syncs with Suunto and sends scheduled workouts directly to Suunto watches.

Coopah vs Runna: which is better?

Both apps offer well-designed, road-focused plans. Coopah costs less per year and lets you message a human coach. Runna is better known and can be bundled with Strava for $149.99 per year.
